Little Hedgehog is one of Little Tiger’s best-loved characters. He lives in the woods, near to all his friends, and gets into lots of adventures. We caught up with him and asked him a few questions.

What is your favourite thing about being a hedgehog?
That’s easy! It’s having so many nice friends in the woods where I live. Can I choose one more favourite thing? When I go to sleep for a long time, it is cold and wet. But when I wake up, there are new leaves on the trees, flowers and blossoms in the hedges, and the birds are singing. It must be some kind of magic!

What’s the worst thing you've ever got stuck in your prickles?
This is a funny one. One autumn Squirrel was throwing chestnuts down from the conker tree. Not one, but three chestnuts in their prickly shells stuck to my back. I raced about trying to shake them off. Everyone ran away from me – they thought I was a monster! They called me Spike after that!

Your friends are obviously very important to you.
What’s the nicest thing they’ve ever done for you?
That’s easy too, and the answer is more
than ‘nice’. If you’ve read about my
adventures in ONE SNOWY NIGHT (I didn’t
know there was such a thing as
Christmas then), you’ll know that my
lovely friends found me in the snow
and saved my life.

How would you spend your perfect day?
A perfect day would be spending time with all my friends. Maybe a picnic, but I have heard that someone new has come to live here – a beaver – and he’s building a boat. Perhaps he’ll take us out on the river some time. A trip down the river would be perfect… Or would it?

What do you like best about Christmas?
Now that I know about Christmas, I can’t believe I used to sleep through it. It’s all so exciting! Christmas is best about Christmas! This year I’m setting my alarm clock so I can wake up and surprise my friends with presents (they’ll think I’m sleeping). I’ll see the sparkly Christmas trees, and the decorations, and you never know, I might see Father Christmas!

What is the best Christmas present you have ever received?
I know it’s not the most exciting present in the world but before Father Christmas left me that red woolly hat, I was so cold and miserable. It was the first present I’d ever had, and it turned out to be the best!
