You’ll know him as CBeebies’ Mr Tumble, but Justin Fletcher has become an honorary Little Tiger. He has voiced five CD and Book sets for us, reading the stories in his own, inimitable way.
Happy Reading! |
You recently recorded some audio versions of some of our favourite Little Tiger books, is there anything about doing voice work like this that is better or worse than working on-camera?
I enjoy performing both in front of the camera and out of vision. My method is to totally immerse myself in the story whether I’m playing a character or using my own voice.
If there was one character from a children’s book
you
could voice, who would it be?
I would enjoy playing the part of Mr Toad
in The Wind in the Willows.
What were your favourite books
when you were growing up?
As a young boy I used to enjoy
reading Babar the Elephant books
and
Richard Scarry’s books. |
How do you come up with the characers and situations in your much-loved TV shows?
I observe people in everyday situations. I listen out for different voices and mannerisms and if I find them interesting they help me develop new characters.
If you could go back in time and give yourself 1 tip when you were starting out in your career, what would you say?
The best piece of advice I was given has stood me in good stead. It is to concentrate on the three C’s in children’s television - clarity, communication and commitment. And of course - you must never give up!
